Confession: We received reports of this going back last week, but kinda thought it was known the tests were for a limited time (originally scheduled for a week, if memory serves). MacRumors, however, reminds us not to take such things for granted.
So, yep, Apple has completed the pre-WWDC beta testing for Push Notification. Is it enough to make sure the audacious system is as bullet proof as possible, given the severe problems MobileMe’s launch suffered last year?
Hey, we’re just happy Apple did some outside testing at all. (Baby steps and all that). If it turns out they need it, we hope they come back for a second round. As many rounds as it takes, actually. Push Notification has to “just work” at launch.

Φαίνεται πως η Apple μας ξανά χρεώνει εάν πάμε να κατεβάσουμε κάποια εφαρμογή που είχαμε αγοράσει στο παρελθόν. Η χρέωση ισχύει μόνο εάν την αγοράσουμε από το iPhone. Τουλάχιστον αυτό μας εξηγεί η παρακάτω screenshot.
Looks like Apple’s begun charging full price if you try to download an app you’ve already bought over the iPhone. This did not used to be the case — previously you’d be given a dialog stating you’d already bought it and you could go ahead and re-download it for free. Now the dialog says you can still re-download it for free on your computer (via iTunes), but if you want to download it again directly to your iPhone, you’ve got to buy it again.
What’s going on here? Not bandwidth control, since free apps and updates to paid apps are still free. Not device restriction, because you can still re-download for free via iTunes (though it’s not as convenient, of course).
We’re guessing that with the on-device account management coming to iPhone 3.0 — where you can log in and out of multiple iTunes accounts right on your iPhone — Apple is putting this in place to prevent the sharing of purchases between accounts. (Otherwise you could just log into 100 other iPhones with your account and give them all your paid apps right over the air).
We can understand the concern, but we’ll miss the functionality. Personally, I bought a FedEx tracking app that I delete when I’m not expecting anything and re-download when I am. Now I can’t do that any time I want any more — only any time I’m at my computer.

According to Apple’s Knowledge Base it is a real screen even though few have ever seen it.
Operate iPhone 3G in a place where the temperature is between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Low- or high-temperature conditions might temporarily shorten battery life
or cause iPhone 3G to temporarily stop working properly.
Store iPhone 3G in a place where the temperature is between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F). Don’t leave iPhone 3G in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can
exceed this range.
If the interior temperature of iPhone 3G exceeds normal operating temperatures, you may experience the following as it attempts to regulate its temperature:
- iPhone 3G stops charging
- Display dims
- Weak cellular signal
- Temperature warning screen appears with the message “iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it” (see image below)
This message appears when the operating temperature has become too hot. This is a safety mechanism that protects the components of your iPhone 3G. If this message appears, you should turn iPhone 3G off, move it to a cooler environment, and allow it to cool before resuming use.
Note: When this message appears, iPhone 3G may still be able to make emergency calls.
Some conditions and activities that may activate the Temperature warning message:
- Leaving iPhone 3G in a car on a hot day.
- Leaving it in direct sunlight for extended amounts of time.
- Using certain applications in hot conditions or direct sunlight for long periods of time, such as GPS tracking in a car on a sunny day or listening to music while in direct sunlight.
Στο firmware 3.0 που αναμένεται τον Ιούνιο, τώρα πια στην τελευταία beta (5) τα notes (σημειώσεις) σας γίνονται αυτόματα push όπως συμβαίνει και με το mail σας ή τις επαφές σας.
Apple has enabled push synchronization of notes via Mobile Me for the iPhone OS 3.0 firmware, according to an iSpazio report.
Just write a note in the iPhone, and it will be automatically sent to the server and consequently display a window on your computer that notifies you of the synchronize notes. Once you approve of the sync you can find your notes in the Mail application as a MobileMe Note
Ο δημιουργός του cydia βγάζει το cydia για το firmware 3.0. Μπορείτε να το βρείτε στην τελευταία έκδοση του QuickPWN που κυκλοφορεί.
Προσοχή για εσάς που χρησιμοποιείται yellowsn0w.
Εάν αναβαθμίσετε στην έκδοση 3.0 το firmware θα αλλάξει το baseband σας και δεν θα μπορείτε να χρησιμοποιήσετε το yellowsn0w πια και φυσικά ούτε να κάνετε downgrade το baseband αν η έκδοση του bootloader σας δεν είναι 5.8.
Δεν θα υπάρξουν άλλες καινούριες εφαρμογές αν δεν παίζουν με την έκδοση 3.0 είπε η Apple. Φαίνεται πως η Apple βρίσκεται στην τελική ευθεία για την διανομή του iPhone 3.0 firmware στους χρήστες. Έτσι προσπαθεί να προετοιμάσει ακόμα και τους developers για την έκδοση 3.0. Με το παρακάτω email.
iPhone OS 3.0 beta 5 was only released for general consumption yesterday, and already Apple is rocking our collective faces off with big news. While a cool new feature being uncovered would be great, what Apple has in store for would-be iPhone application submitters is a bit more challenging.
Effective today, Apple will no longer be accepting any iPhone or iPod touch applications that are not compatible with iPhone OS 3.0. According to an email sent to developers,
“Beginning today, all submissions to the App Store will be reviewed on the latest beta of iPhone OS 3.0. If your app submission is not compatible with iPhone OS 3.0, it will not be approved.”
While this may make sense at first glance, consider that OS 3.0 does not yet have a release date and developers might be pushed to spend time and energy tweaking apps against an unstable OS base. Also, any devs who only ship free apps will now have to pony up $99 to join the beta if they want to debug their apps against the new version.
Further, it seems that Apple might be removing existing applications from the App Store, once iPhone OS 3.0 is released, if it is found that they are not compatible with the new operating system. So grab your Twitter clients and flame-throwers, it’s gripin’ time!
Update: iPhone Developer Program enrollment is required for App Store application distribution; regardless of whether the application is free or paid, the enrollment fee applies, and any developers with apps in the store have already paid their $99 for access to the beta. Η Apple έδωσε την beta 5 του iPhone OS 3.0 στους developers. Πέρυσι όταν η έκδοση 2.0 ήταν σε beta έφτασε μέχρι την beta 9, οπότε μάλλον μπορούμε να υποθέσουμε ότι έχουν διορθωθεί τα bugs του iPhone 3.0 firmware μέχρι το 50%.
As should be expected, the modern devteam jailbreak process is still valid. The picture below is 3.0beta5 jailbroken on an iPhone 3G. As we’ve said in previous posts, nothing other than a hardware respin can prevent our jailbreak from working on all exisiting iPhone and iPod Touches. They’ve chased our jailbreak so far down in the chain of trust, the only way they can fix it is in hardware.
